On April 1, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari asked for the UN Commission report investigating the death of his wife, Benazir Bhutto, be delayed until the commission could interview four key international figures: U.S. ex-Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai, Saudi Arabian intelligence chief Prince Muqrin (bin Abdul Aziz) and the UAE intelligence chief.

On Thursday, April 15, 2010 the United Nations released its commission's REPORT on the assassination of Benazir Bhutto. In it, the commission notes the lack of security and follow through  on the part of the Pakistani authorities (under the command of General Pervez Musharraf) and how the U.S. had pre-knowledge of absolute threats to Bhutto's life and yet did not take adequate action to assure her safety...

United Nations Commission Report On Benazir Bhutto's Death Released 

April 15, 2010

A UN inquiry report released on April 15, 2010 found that the Pakistani government   was "fatally insufficient" in protecting Benazir Bhutto in December 2007. It further goes on to suggest that key international figures, including Condoleezza Rice, was deficient in her duty to ensure Bhutto's safety in Pakistan. According to the report, "the Commission was mystified by the efforts of certain high-ranking Pakistani government authorities to obstruct access to military and intelligence sources." At the moment, the murder investigation is in the hands of the Pakistani authorities, which the Commission says are "competent."  Read more HERE.

2010 BY-ELECTIONS IN PAKISTAN MARKED BY ASSASSINATION AND CORRUPTION

Since it isn't a general election year, a lot of the news of this barely made it to the mainstream press, but the small elections all over Pakistani for municipal judges, police chiefs, etc. were marked, as they often are by murder, corruption, fraud, intimidation, etc. Democracy is far from a reality in Pakistan, and there is no concerted effort at the moment to move the country forward in its democratic development.  Read more HERE.
